Adamas University hosts annual fest in blended mode

Adinova 2021, the annual fest of Adamas University, brought together debaters, dancers, singers, stand-up comics and aspiring filmmakers among others on Zoom on February 13 and 14.

Over 300 students participated in various competitions virtually. Maintaining Covid-safety protocol, the closing ceremony was held physically on February 15 at the Adamas University convention centre, where the students held recitation, dance and music performances for the closing ceremony. The first, second and third place holders for each event were invited to receive their trophies.  

“It’s good to see students from more than 20 institutes participate in Adinova virtually. We are happy to host the winners face to face for the awards and the closing ceremony. I am sure they have developed new friendships and talent showcasing abilities even virtually,” said Ujjwal K. Chowdhury, pro-vice-chancellor of the university and dean of the school of media, communication, and fashion. 

With each event being organised by different clubs of the university, there was never a dull moment during the fest. These are a few events that caught our eye. 

Music, dance and act

The cultural events were a treat. Evoke (dance) and Retro Kshetra (music) made us tap our feet to the beats. Bihu, Bharatanatyam and freestyle performances kept us riveted to our screens. Ankita Dey of Adamas University bagged the first position for Evoke. 

Tulika Shome of Asutosh College emerged the winner of Retro Kshetra. 

The judges did not make it easy for the students who participated in Diginattya (impromptu acting). Starting from portraying a conversation with Rabindranath Tagore about modern education to acting out a cranky office boss, the participants made it very difficult for the judges too to decide a winner. Pritha Chowdhury of Bengal School of Technology and Management took home the winner’s trophy. 

Play with words

In Clash of Words (debate), Valley of Voices (recitation) and Let’s Change (public speaking), participants shared original poems, opinions and knowledge on hard-hitting topics like ‘Can science and religion coexist?’ and ‘Social networking platforms are effective tools for quick and convenient communication or are they just sophisticated means for stalking people?’

Team Bulbul, comprising Sebontika Bose of NIT Durgapur, and Suchetana Das of The Bhawanipur Education Society College were the winners of In Clash of Words.

Poushali Kanjilal and Madhuparna Das of Bethune College, Sreeja Roychowdhury and Sumedha Bhattacharjee of Adamas University were the winners of Valley of Voices. Arko Sarkar of Adamas University won the first prize for Let’s Change. 

Quest (quiz) lit up the competitive spirit of the participants. Koustuv Biswas and Soujanya Mukherjee, students of Adamas University were the winners.

On screen

While aspiring filmmakers put forth short films on addiction, abuse, mental health and more in Screen Battles, budding photographers clicked pictures on the theme ‘Basanta eshe gechhe’. Lalit Krishnan Yalagala of Armed Forces Medical College was the winner of Screen Battles. Arnab Mondal of Burdwan Dental College and Hospital bagged the first spot in Photo Mania.
