Five cool mom-dad pairs who embody care, courage and commitment with a dash of humour
They defy social norms, love to have fun and also remember to teach their kids the right lessons. Here are some daring parents from books, movies and shows who set an example by being who they are.
Jeetu and Priyamvada from Badhaai Ho
There’s something very unique about Nakul’s parents, Jeetender and Priyamvada. The middle-class family revolves around life’s little pleasures and wants to conform to social norms but is not afraid to stand up for what it feels right.
Jeetender and Priyamvada are going to be parents again at an age when their peers are looking to become grandparents. Although Nakul and his brother are embarrassed by the news, they realise that what society says doesn’t matter as long as there is support from loved ones.
The way Jeetender displays his love and support for his wife is quite a contrast to the traditional Indian middle-aged boomer father. Priyamvada is a level-headed mother of two, who never stops standing up for the things she believes in, even if it means social shaming.

Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker from Modern Family
Modern Family as a show turns traditional gender roles upside down. The most fun parents on the show are the gay couple Mitchell and Cameron, who adopted Lily Pritchett-Tucker, a baby girl of Vietnamese origin.
Their journey of parenthood is like any other parent --- figuring it all out through ups and downs, oscillating between moments of joy and utter confusion.
Lily grows up into a young girl and when she discovers menstruation, Cameron makes sure their little girl is not left unattended.
Mitchell and Cameron speak wide and clear about parents being one team. The couple goes through the processes of learning, and unlearning, to give their daughter all that she deserves amid the judgemental glares that come their way as Lily’s “two fathers”.

Molly and Arthur Weasley from the Harry Potter series
Molly and Arthur Weasley have the right amount of humour, magic and patience, making them one of the coolest parent couples in fiction. Their love and commitment towards their children and their wizard friends from Hogwarts, and especially Harry, stand out throughout the Harry Potter series.
Even though their twin sons Fred and George are always up to mischief, Molly and Arthur never fail to teach them a lesson, either by restricting them to use magic only at home or by grounding them.
From sending howlers (magical letters) to rebuking, we loved how Molly hauled Ron up for flying his dad’s car even though his intentions were right.

Homer and Marge Simpson from The Simpsons
Homer and Marge Simpson embody several qualities of a typical working-class parent couple. A father who thinks about providing for his kids but often does not involve himself much with them. A mother who is a dutiful homemaker and is respected for her ethics and righteousness.
The Simpsons try to be ideal parents but not without their share of blunders.
From giving Lisa a saxophone and enrolling her in a beauty pageant to dressing up like a robot to entertain Bart, Homer takes up multiple jobs and gets his children presents to make them happy. Even though he knows that the conventional way of expressing fatherly love is to provide for his family, Homer also shows us that he is human after all and is trying his best to improve. And Marge’s knack for being outspoken and demanding justice ought to have a positive influence on her children.

Bob and Helen Parr from The Incredibles
Bob, or Mr Incredible, desires to have a happy family life. His wonderful fatherly side comes through when he tries to take care of his youngest son Jack-Jack and faces all the struggles without any complaints. The way he tries to keep his daughter Violet and son Dash under constant surveillance reminds us of how our parents would like to keep us under watch too!
Helen, or Mr Incredible, on the other hand juggles everything efficiently. She is sweet and super quick. A devoted mother, she makes sure that everything gets done despite all the tantrums from her kids. We love the unity in this family and their super strong bond with each other.
