A peek at campuses across Kolkata, every week
Some more of our favourite hang-outs on campus that gave us relief from boring lectures, were our go-to places for birthday parties and placement celebrations and of course, they acted as natural mood lifters.
Pailan College of Management and Technology
When I first joined college, I used to imagine that life would be just like the one shown in movies directed by Karan Johar. But unfortunately, things weren’t the same. Being a part of a professional course like Bachelor of Optometry, college life literally had no spice until I found my favorite hang-out on my campus --- the terrace. To me, hang-out doesn’t always mean hanging out with friends. Instead, I used to spend my me-time on the terrace. I used to enjoy the clear sky and the greenery of the open fields at a distance. A few things were always there to keep me company, like a cup of tea and my earphones.
No matter how busy my day would be, I always managed to take a break. Being stuck at home has made me realise how beautiful my life was in college and how terribly I miss the terrace.

With the Department of Mass Communication keeping us busy, it is difficult to get some free time. But amidst all the hustle, we do manage to unwind and sit on the famous “benches” on our campus. We not only hang out there but also work on assignments.
The pandemic has changed everything. People’s hang-outs have turned into meetups over a Zoom call. But those benches have a different story and have no replacements.

Like the Room of Requirement at Hogwarts in Harry Potter, my university has a place that works its magic and solves all my problems. My hang-out is the bleachers positioned next to the basketball court. After tedious lecture sessions in classrooms, the waves of laughter combined with soothing gales work miraculously.
During the pandemic, the virtual world is our closest attempt at bringing back the normalcy we’ve lost. But emojis don’t have the same warmth as smiles and video calls hold no flame against the playful nudges and friendly fistfights. It’s not really the place that I miss but the way it made me feel and the people who contributed to that.

The Heritage Academy
My favorite hang-out on campus is the ground in front of the canteen. In summer, my friends and I would go there and enjoy the sparkling drops of sunshine sticking on the edges of the grass. In winter, we relished the warmth of the sun on our faces. In spring, we got consumed by the smell of the newly bloomed flowers and the freshness of the recently mowed long grass.
I miss our hour-long gossip sessions, looking at the clear blue sky, clicking innumerable pictures, and the hot spicy Maggie which was a must after college ended. This place has had a memorable series of events -- holding grudges, and sharing happy and sad moments.

My favourite hang-out is none other than the green ground full of life, just behind the main college canteen on our campus. The never-ending talks, fights and games. Sitting in a corner of the ground on the green grass, thinking of my future, at times disturbed by friends or the instant happiness as the friendly canteen staff brought tasty treats out on the ground... All this made me fall for the place even more. I have a lot of memories of laughter, cries, dancing, celebrating birthdays and placement parties that can never be replaced.
I miss my hang-out but the memories are enough to bring a smile to my face.

Sister Nivedita University
My favorite hang-out has to be the cafeteria. I love visiting the cafe whenever I am taking a break from the long lectures. The aesthetic interior design, the smell of coffee and freshly baked chocolate pastries are some of the reasons why I love this place.
Another thing I love about this cafe is the bookshelf. It has sweet romances that are perfect reads with the cafe’s cold coffee and cookies.
The light music, fairy lights and a Chicken Sandwich are all I need to turn a bad day into a good one.
