A peek at campuses across Kolkata, every week
From wolfing down South Indian delights to ditching friends and spending hours at the library, here’s why we miss our favourite spots on campus.
My favourite hang-out is the Sociology department’s library. It’s a place where I can get my hands on the best books and also interact with students from various departments. The library has always served as a common room for both us students and our faculty members (our adda spot). Virtual classes have allowed us to see our classmates regularly but conversing with seniors and juniors or breaking down the plot of a complex novel together is something that I miss.

The Heritage Academy
My favourite hang-out on campus is our main canteen. Gorging on its scrumptious food during recess made attending back-to-back classes completely worth it. I especially miss the dosas from our canteen. A delicacy perfect for college students -- delicious, filling and pocket-friendly.
I also miss the neverending process of choosing and experimenting with the wide variety of dishes available on the days I don’t crave a South Indian snack. With the big crowd at the coupon counter and the rush to grab the perfect seat, choosing a dish was quite the chore.

My favourite hang-out is the library, where a book lover like me could immerse myself in a book for hours. The pandemic has given me ample time to read books at home but the charm of a library can never be met. Be it in between classes or in an off-period, I would simply go to the library and read, even if it was a book I carried from home. Not everyone would find this place interesting, but I would cancel plans with friends to secretly go and read. Away from the chaos of the college campus, the home for books gave me solitude. My friends knew exactly where to find me; such was my favourite spot on campus.

My favourite spot is the smallest room on campus --- our library, room 401, aka EDGE ROOM. I am a member of the technical club of our college and we organise our techno-management fest, EDGE. The ‘Edge Room’ belongs to all the members of the club. It is the busiest room on the whole campus. The room holds memories of all the sleepless nights, the pressure-ridden moments, the lessons and the tears of joy.

If you ask me to identify my favourite hang-out on campus, I’ll lead you to the first floor of my college building because that’s where our library is. The library is where I find myself amidst a multitude of books and I love being there. The pin-drop silence comforts me and brings me peace. The seat beside the window in the corner is my favourite.

Techno Main Salt Lake
I haven’t spent a lot of time on campus because of the pandemic. But I miss the place where every college student fills their empty stomach, the place where we can laugh out loud after a boring lecture -- our canteen. This place has witnessed many students completing their assignments at the last moment. From phuchka to momos to biryani, we get the whole taste of Kolkata street food. Standing there and gossiping with friends is what I miss the most.
