Rotaract Club of Central Calcutta holds inter-college literary fest at Rotary Sadan

The Rotaract Club of Central Calcutta organised the inter-college literary fest ‘Ground Zero V.6: Through Adversity to the Stars’ at Rotary Sadan on January 30, following COVID-safety protocol.

After a long hiatus, students from 35 institutes across the city came together for the sixth edition of the fest, which tested the participants on their improvisation skills and ability to think on their feet.

The Department of Law of Calcutta University was declared the champion. Amity University and Surendranath Law College were the first and second runners-up. Jadavpur University received an honourable mention. 

The more conventional events at Ground Zero V.6 included the extempore competition Impromptu, the debate The Controvert and In-quiz-itive, a quiz with a twist. Taboo was a two-player game where the participants had to use limited words to help their partner guess a certain pop culture reference. In Jam and Verteez, the speaker had to present ideas without grammatical errors or stammering while the other participants looked out for such errors.

There were also innovative options like Dia-Logic, where contestants had to write dialogues that fit a video clip they were shown; and Live Reporting, a journalistic simulation where a participant had to concentrate on a video and then present it as a TV reporter. Another competition, Flipside, checked the contestants’ general awareness and quick thinking by making them switch between the proposition and opposition on certain topics.
