CA aspirants who have registered for the May exam will be able to carry forward all the benefits including payment of fees and exemptions in the November schedule.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has issued a notice stating that the CA May 2020 examinations have been cancelled and it will be merged to the November schedule.
For the candidates who had registered for the May schedule, all the benefits of the current attempt, like fee payments and exemptions will be taken forward in the November 2020 attempt.
According to previous guidelines, the CA May 2020 exam was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and was later scheduled to be held in July and August.
ICAI has declared its decision to cancel the pending exam after presenting its side in the ongoing hearing on the ‘Opt-out’ option in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the ICAI had informed the Supreme Court that in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country, it would assess the feasibility of scheduling CA exams from July 29 to August 16 and consult with the states and exam centers on the matter.
The Institute said in a statement, “Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India vide its Guidelines dated 29th June 2020 has extended the closure of all schools & academic Institutions and academic congregations till 31st July 2020. Select State Governments have put extended prohibitions in their respective States. Post the said Notification dated 29th June 2020, many Schools/ Academic Institutions have expressed their inability to provide their premises to conduct the Examinations.”
Students applying for the examinations in May 2020 will have the option to change their appearance and exam center when applying for a new exam in November 2020, the ICAI said in a statement.
