CAT 2020 held in three slots to ensure COVID safety

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 for admission to B-schools was held in three slots of two hours each on November 29.

The exam is usually held in two slots of three hours each.

The difficulty level for this year’s exam was moderate, according to experts. A total of 2.28 lakh students were to take the exam at 430 centres across 159 cities. This year’s exam is being conducted by IIM Indore.

Highlights of CAT 2020:

•    No. questions: 76

•    No. of questions in Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: 26

•    No. of questions in Quantitative Ability: 26

•    No. of questions in Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: 24

Slot 1:

The question paper was moderately easy and that could mean higher cut-off marks for admission to top B-schools.

The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) Section was tougher than the rest of the paper and experts expected students to be able to attempt 16 to 20 questions in the 40 minutes allotted. For Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), the number of questions expected to be attempted with ease was between 20 in the given 40 minutes.

Slot 2:

Moderate to difficult. The difficulty level was higher than Slot 1. The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) paper was tougher than the other papers in Slot 2.

Slot 3:

Exam pattern consistent with other two slots. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning was difficult, Quantitative Ability was easier but tricky and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension was moderately difficult.

CAT results will be announced in January 2021.
