Last date to apply for the optional exams for class 12 students is August 22. And class 10 and 12 students in the compartment bracket can apply till August 20. According to CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the examination will likely be in September, and the dates will be announced soon.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday released notifications regarding class 10 and 12 compartment examinations and Class 12 optional examinations. Both examinations are scheduled to be held in September, 2020. CBSE will announce the exact dates of the examination soon.
In a notification, CBSE stated that students of class 10 and 12, who have failed in one or more subjects and whose result has been declared as ‘compartment’ in CBSE examination, can apply online for the compartment exams. The application window will remain open till August 20 upto 5 pm.

In another notification CBSE stated that students of class 12 who were marked on the basis of the alternate assessment scheme can apply online for the optional exam to improve their marks in class 12 board examination. Candidates who want to appear in the optional examination can apply online till August 22, 2020, upto 5 pm. The statement added, “The marks obtained by a candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have opted to take these examinations.”

CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said, “Optional examination for class 12 students whose result has been declared based on the assessment scheme and wish to improve their performance, are proposed to be conducted in September, along with the compartment examination for both class 10 and 12 students. Dates will be announced soon.”
Both the notifications are applicable for regular and private candidates as well. Regular candidates can apply through their respective schools and private candidates can submit their application directly through CBSE website.
