Students perform online to celebrate the occasion
Griffins International School (GIS), Kharagpur, recently celebrated the birth centenary of Satyajit Ray.
Students of GIS recreated some of the legendary characters “Feluda”, “Professor Shonku”, “Gupi Gayen”, “Bagha Bayen”, “Apu” and “Durga” to commemorate Ray’s versatile genius.
A short video has been made with all the performances.
The students had participated in online rehearsals amid the pandemic before the final performance.
GIS principal Sarbari Brahma said, “The legendary Satyajit Ray has written several books for children and made films that are both entertaining and instructive. We always inspire our students to know this towering personality through his creations. Our children paid their tribute to the legend by recreating the famous characters.”
The little Gupi Gayen (Samparka Manna of Class V) and little Bagha Bayen (Ayan Das of Class six) were delighted as they met their classmates during the online rehearsal and performance. “We miss our school very much. But celebrating the birth anniversary of Satyajit Ray was a great experience for all of us. We have thoroughly enjoyed it,” said one of them.
GIS chairman Abishek Yadav said, “This pandemic has posed many challenges in front of us. But we could not ignore the birth centenary of Satyajit Ray. We’re happy that technology has helped us overcome many obstacles. Our students made us proud by commemorating the birth anniversary of the legend on the digital platform.”
