The 'Global TM diagnostic kit' was approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for use in diagnostic labs.
Equine Biotech, a start-up, has developed a Made-in-India 'Global TM diagnostic kit' at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, for accurate and affordable diagnosis of Covid-19, which has been approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
In a statement, IISc said, “The biggest advantage of Equine Biotech's 'Global TM diagnostic kit' is that it takes just around one-and-half hours to confirm the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in samples.” The kit uses the Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method of testing.
Speaking about the diagnostic kit, Utpal Tatu, founder of Equin Biotech and professor of Biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, said, “Our startup has been working on testing for Coronavirus infections for many years, even before the COVID-19 pandemic started. This has helped us engineer the kit for COVID-19.”
The manufacturers further stressed that their kits are much more economical and reliable in the market.
