According to the Director, VK Tewari, IIT Kharagpur has formed a committee to evaluate the academic performance along with decisions on grading scheme.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will declare the final results for the academic year 2019-20 after July 8, director Prof VK Tewari confirmed. IIT Kharagpur had earlier scrapped the final year semester examination considering COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the director’s statement, IIT Kharagpur formed a committee to evaluate academic performance along with decisions on grading scheme, supplementary examination and department change.
Around 13,000 students have enrolled their names in various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. According to the statement, the final year students were evaluated based on grades of mid-semester examinations, assignments, class tests, viva, etc.
An institute spokesperson said, since many students belong from the remote parts of the country, and have poor net connectivity, the institute had decided not to conduct online assessment tests. Instead, IIT-Kharagpur used an alternative evaluation procedure, which would be fair to all, scientific and accurate as well.
The spring 2020 (end) semester results have to be declared in July for the career prospects of students, the spokesperson added.
The fresh semester is expected to commence in September after assessing the COVID situation, but whether that will be conducted offline or online has not been decided yet.
