The 10-day workshop begins on September 27 and is open for engineering students, researchers, and members of the industry and startups
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Calicut are jointly offering a ten-day online workshop on Embedded Application Development using SHAKTI microprocessors, the first indigenously developed Swadeshi microprocessor in the country.
This instructor-led programme, which begins from September 27, will provide thorough knowledge about the Swadeshi microprocessor, its programming and interfacing for the internet of things (IoT) applications. This course will also enhance skills in using the Swadeshi processors developed by IIT Madras, which have the potential to be used across the world for IoT applications in future.
IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation course coordinator V Kamakoti, who is also a faculty at the Computer Science and Engineering department of IIT Madras, said, “The world is moving towards RISC-V. Every top company has included RISC-V based products in their road maps. It is important for our country to build capacity in the areas of RISC-V. Thus, this workshop assumes great significance, especially since it is introducing RISC-V through our indigenously developed SHAKTI microprocessor.”
The course will also help participants get an exposure in industry standard methodologies from the makers of the processors. A virtual lab will be made available for participants, who can get a hands-on experience on the Swadeshi microprocessors. The course is open for students of Engineering (UG & PG) and MSc (Electronics), PhD scholars, faculty members and professionals from the industry/startups.
NIELIT Calicut has developed India’s first Swadeshi processor based Remote Embedded System Design Lab, which has already trained about 2,000 participants across the globe. The configured Swadeshi processor platform enables embedded hardware design remotely and helps promote the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan towards the growing need for Swadeshi computer hardware.
The need for Swadeshi computer hardware is crucial in many areas like Smart Devices deployed in different domains, including electronics for public utility services such as surveillance, transportation, environmental condition monitoring, and commodity appliances like smart fans/ locks/ washing machines and so on.
