First time the prestigious event will be held in India
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata will host the International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), a conference for computer science researchers sponsored by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), in 2024.
This is the first time the conference will be held in India. ICPR 2024 will be held from December 2 to December 6, 2024, with more than 2,400 researchers and experts in computer science from USA, Europe and Asia. It is expected to be a big push for the pattern recognition community development in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other participating countries of the region.
The Indian Unit for Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence (IUPRAI), the Indian body of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), will be working towards making the 2024 conference a success.
Umapada Pal of the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit at ISI, Kolkata, will lead this conference from India. “ISI Kolkata is one of the leading institutes in India working on Pattern Recognition. And the fact that we would be hosting this prestigious international conference for the first time in India further reiterates our position in the domain of pattern recognition research globally,” Pal said.
ISI Kolkata will organise a special event on the sidelines of the conference. Young Students for Pattern Recognition (YSPR) would aim to attract young students from colleges and universities towards pattern recognition, computer vision and machine learning. Colleges and universities will be notified about the event in due time. Another event on Women in Pattern Recognition will also be organised to encourage research among women.
The conference would act as an international forum for researchers and practitioners in the broad area of pattern recognition, including pattern recognition and machine learning, computer vision, speech, image, video and multimedia, biometrics and human computer interaction, document analysis and recognition, biomedical imaging and bioinformatics.
Pattern recognition is the automated recognition of patterns and regularities in data by the computer. It has applications in statistical data analysis, signal processing, image analysis, information retrieval, bioinformatics, data compression, computer graphics and machine learning. Pattern recognition has its origins in statistics and engineering.
More than 40 workshops, tutorials and contests in various topics will be held as part of the conference.
The bi-annual conference is held in the US, Europe and Asia. Before coming to India in 2024, ICPR-2022 will be in Montreal, Canada.
