Boards have sent tentative schedule to school education department for approval
The Madhyamik and Higher Secondary (HS) exams in West Bengal are likely to be held in June 2021.
The Madhaymik (Class X) exam usually begins in February and the HS (Class XII) exam is traditionally held in March every year.
“The Madhyamik board and the HS Council will announce the dates for holding next year’s Madhyamik and HS examinations, at an appropriate time,” West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee told the media recently.
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, which conducts the Class X board exam, and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, which conducts the Class XII board exam, are said to have drawn up an exam schedule and sent it to the state education department. The proposed dates will have to be approved by the state government approves it.
With students missing out on physical classes because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Bengal government has already accepted the recommendations of an expert panel to reduce the syllabus burden by 30 to 35 per cent for both Madhyamik and HS exams in 2021.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), too, have reduced the board exam syllabus substantially.
