State government to write to CBSE and other major school boards
Maharashtra’s Class X and XII board exams 2021 have been postponed due to a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases, state school education minister Varsha Gaikwad said on April 12.
Taking to Twitter, she wrote, “Given the current COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra, we’ve postponed state board exams for Class X & XII. The present circumstances are not conducive for holding exams. Your health is our priority.”
Gaikwad added that the state government will write to the major school boards, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to reconsider their board exams.
The state education board is planning to conduct the Class XII exams by the end of May and the Class X exams in June. Earlier, exams for both classes were scheduled to begin the last week of April.
The entrance exams for professional courses have also been postponed till the end of May, and the fresh dates of their exams will be announced after assessing the health situation in the state, Gaikwad added.
“During the consultations, various alternative assessment options were evaluated keeping the health, well-being and future of our students in mind. Postponing exams seemed to be the most pragmatic solution,” she said.
