New school calendar to be prepared for the 2020-21 academic session which will be effective from April 2020 to March 2021.
The Mizoram Government gave green signal to open educational institutions under Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on July 15, 2020 and start the admission process for Class 11 students on June 22. On Wednesday, the announcement was made in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte. In the meantime, MBSE plans to evacuate and sanitize the school buildings which were previously being used as quarantine facilities, so that students can go to their respective schools on July 15.
Taking all the new issues and factors into consideration, it was unanimously decided in the meeting, to prepare a new school calendar for the 2020-21 academic session. The new calendar will be effective from April 2020 to March 2021, said Ralte.
An MBSE official said that the new calendar needs to ensure enough time to conduct the whole syllabus with chopping any lesson or chapter during the academic year. However, shortening the allotted lesson time to manage the calendar timing is permissible. For the higher secondary students, a new lesson plan would be chalked out separately, in agreement with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) calendar, as the students are yet to write NEET or JEE examinations- the official informed.
In the meeting, the issue of completing the pending examinations of class 10 and 12 was also discussed. The official informed that the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister and the Chief Executive and Secretary of Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have together decided to allow students to take the exams under CBSE, in the centre of their choice. "The CISCE will also set up an exam centre at Government Mizo High School in Aizawl," Ralte was quoted as saying, by the official.
The Education Minister also acknowledged and raised concerns for those hundreds of students who have come from different parts of the state due to lockdown, without completing their exams for pending subjects under CBSE and CISCE. The officials also declared that Class 12 board exams under MBSE would be resumed from June 16 to 18 for pending subjects and that of compartmental exams for Class 10 would be held on June 16. The results of Class 12 board exams and Class 10 compartmental exams are required to be declared before July 15.
