Affordable and nutritious cake may be served at anganwadi centres
Researchers at Sambalpur University have developed a millet-based cake premix with nutritional and therapeutic value.
The varsity has been granted a patent for 20 years for the cake mix developed by the home science PG department and School of Chemistry.
Chandrashree Lenka, head, home science department, said the cake will cost only Rs 2 if the millet and wheat are procured from the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The cake prepared by using the premix is low-calorie and delicious. This can be served to children at anganwadi centres, Lenka said.
The faculty members of the School of Chemistry and other research associates were involved in the project.
The researchers took a series of trials to develop the best composition with the exact nutritional parameters. The patent for the premix composition was filed in August 2020. The patent was granted on March 31.
