The Sikkim government has decided to reopen schools in the state from October 19 with several precautions and health measures in place. They will have classes 6 days a week with half-day school on Saturdays.
Bhim Thatal, a nodal officer of the education department’s public relations and publicity wing, said on Thursday that there will be no winter holidays this year. All notified government holidays, however, will be in place. The ongoing session will be concluded by 13th February and the next session is set to start from 15th of February, with just a couple of days’ gaps in between.
A calendar has been prepared by the state education department, which stated that the schools will have to make certain arrangements before reopening, which include compiling contact details of all parents and ensuring proper hygiene on the campus.
Educational institutes in Sikkim were shut down in March, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The state however, had partially opened government schools on September 21, with 50 percent teaching and non-teaching staff members reporting for work, and students from classes 9 to 12 attending classes on a voluntary basis.
