Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd (SISCPL) has established five fellowships in the broad area of computing sciences for female MTech students at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.
The scholarships are part of SISCPLS’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and aims at encouraging girls seeking to pursue careers in the technology sector, IISc said in a statement.
The fellowship that will be awarded from the August-2021 academic year will be a monthly scholarship for the entire course period. It would also include an unrestricted research grant including travel expenses, purchase of laptops and other consumables for five girl students.
Masayuki Toriumi, managing director of SISCPL said that the company hopes to grow this partnership with the institute and have many more women opting for sciences and this in turn contributes to improving gender diversity in organisations.
Girls chosen for MTech programmes at IISc Bangalore in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Computational and Data Science, Computer Science and Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering will be eligible for the fellowship.
The fellowship aims to encourage more girls to pursue higher studies at IISc in engineering and technology and address gender inequality in these areas.
