Plan to vaccinate 100 million Americans and increase testing
US President Joe Biden has urged all schools in the country to ensure that teachers and staff are vaccinated. He has also asked governors to ramp up COVID-19 testing in their states.
The stepped-up plan is part of Biden’s efforts to prevent another school year from getting wasted in the US.
Biden plans to vaccinate 100 million Americans and increase testing to cut down on the rapid transmission of the virus.
Under the current vaccine mandate by Biden, all employers who have more than 100 workers will have to vaccinate them all and conduct weekly virus tests.
The vaccination plan for the teachers will be enacted via a new rule by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). States with OSHA plans will require the teachers to get vaccinated or get face tested.
Biden cited Washington DC as a model where 65% of children in the public schools aged between 12 and 17 years have got at least their first dose.
The US President also plans to open up vaccination for children below 12 years of age.
