Special emphasis on districts classified as COVID-19 hotspots
The Nepal government has shut all schools in districts classified as COVID-19 hotspots.
According to the minister Prabhu Shah, the government has decided to close schools in the urban areas till May 14 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.
The council of ministers in Nepal recommended schools to resort to alternative teaching methods while physical classrooms are closed.
Earlier, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, minister for education of Nepal, Science and Technology said that the students are safer at schools than at home. Hence, the directive to close schools is not needed. However, it is now confirmed that the schools will be closed for the mentioned period of time.
