Association of Indian Universities is inviting applications from Indian students for equivalence certificate of foreign degrees, following an MHRD mandate
The Government of India intends to recognise one-year postgraduate degrees from foreign universities as valid for employment opportunities in India. The move, if implemented, will allow Indian students with a one-year master’s degree from abroad eligible to apply for government jobs and also pursue higher education.
Postgraduate degree programmes in India are of two years’ duration, the reason why one-year master’s degrees from foreign universities were not recognised as valid till now.
The move to give recognition to foreign degrees is being seen as a step towards allowing foreign universities to set up campuses in India as projected in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), which has 810 Indian universities as members and works as a mediator between universities and the government(s), has been mandated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to equate foreign university degrees with Indian degrees.
The AIU has made a provision for Indian students with degrees (other than one-year master’s) from foreign universities to apply online for equivalence of their foreign degree/certificate. All a student has to do is log on to https://www.aiu.ac.in/ and click on https://evaluation.aiu.ac.in/student/login .
The AIU is also in the process of building a consortium of international educators to guide Indian universities to attain international standards. The consortium will be responsible for executing student exchange programmes and semester exchange, offering joint degrees and getting foreign faculties.
